Coconut Merchant Review
Everyone knows I love Coconut, I cook & eat it everyday, I use it on my hair & skin. I even work for a Coconut company. Yes I adore the stuff. So when I heard of Coconut Merchants I knew it was going to be something I liked. I contacted them & the offered to send me out a few of their lovely goodies, when the box arrived I was more than chuffed.
We want to revolutionise the way we enjoy natural foods. We want to honour the spirit of the merchants of old who braved obstacles and oceans to share the new wonders of the coconut. We want to share with you these wonders, in new and wonderful ways…
…We believe in honesty, making sure that what we say on the label is present in each jar and packet. We believe in the quality of our products, ensuring that they are to a standard worthy of our seal of approval.
I love Coconut Water, it’s great stuff. I normally have it after I take part in a big run. Not only is it super tasty & better than sugary sports drinks it is also a natural way to replenish electrolytes after hard workouts. Plus it’s high in potassium and magnesium, two nutrients the body needs for general health and good performance. Coconut Merchants Coconut water is gorgeous, really tasty & no artificial flavours, this is because it is 100% Coconut Water, I love this water & I now always have some stocked up in the fridge. They sent me their Matcha Green Tea flavour, which was really tasty, I love original Coconut Water but it’s nice to have something different, I really enjoyed it! They also sent their Coconut & Watermelon drink, this is now my new favourite. It’s delicious. I honestly never thought of mixing Coconut & Watermelon, but the flavours go together so well & it’s so refreshing!
Coconut Merchant also have a coconut oil, the thing that bothers me about Coconut Oil is there are so many on the market now, how can we tell the difference between the good stuff & the cheap rubbish. Well Coconut Merchants extra-virgin Ceylon Coconut Oil is made by cold-pressing dried coconut flesh. This means that it is raw, maintaining all the natural goodness of the coconuts! Bottled at source, our coconut oil is high in Lauric Acid and other medium chain saturated fats beneficial for the body. Its mild and sweet aroma does not overpower your cooking, and it has a delicately smooth texture once melted. That makes this Coconut Oil one of the good ones. I use coconut oil on my hair, because I bleach it, it helps hydrate it & keep it shiny. I also use it on my skin, especially on drier areas, I leave it on for an hour then have a shower. I also use it on spots. As well as cooking & baking of course, Honestly Coconut oil is so versitle. Coconut Merchants sent me a little jar, which I keep in my bag & use it as a lip balm, it’s so cute & amazing.
I have also made some wonderful Brownies, Curries, Waffles & Pancakes with it. This stuff is the bomb!
I love coconut chips. They are so tasty, low in calories & just a great little snack to keep you going. Coconut Merchants Chips are very natural, which I like of course. They are made from Fresh Coconut, cane sugar & salt, then baked. Making them a healthy sweet or savoury snack. They go great on desserts, like a Coconut Sundae or really great if you want to make your porridge a little more tropical.
Now it’s time for the sweet stuff. Let’s start off with the sugar. You can really tell the difference in your baking when you use good sugar. That’s exactly what this stuff is! Everything that I baked with this in turned out amazing. Regular sugar has a Glycaemic Index (which measures how fast glucose is absorbed into the blood) of approximately 65-70; coconut sugar, by contrast, has a reported GI of 35! This, coupled with its sweet caramel-like taste and all the goodness of coconuts, makes coconut sugar a great alternative for all your sweetening needs. I love this. Plus it smells amazing. Also much like the their Coconut Water; Coconut sugar is packed with nutrients like zinc, iron, calcium, potassium, and inulin, as well as antioxidants. Pure and unrefined, with nothing artificial added, our coconut sugar is perfect in cooking and baking as well as in coffees, teas, and smoothies. Who would have thought it, a healthy sugar. I never have sugar in my tea or coffee, so I tried it out on a friend who does. She said that she could taste the lovely caramel tasted, which made her coffee perfect. I have also added it to my Pina Colada Smoothie Bowl & it was amazing. It really does work in everything.
Finally the Coconut Syrup. I had never heard of Coconut Syrup until my package arrived. If I’m having something saucy I normally use Choc Shot (which I love!) However as all vegans will agree with me it’s all about choice & oh my gosh this is a good choice. I’m not sure what I was expecting when I first decided to put it on my waffles one Saturday Morning. It is so thick & dark, it kind of reminded me of treacle. Made from the sap of coconut palm flowers, coconut syrup has a molasses-like consistency and slightly sweet taste. I really like it, sweet & tasty with all the healthy benefits coconut has packed inside. So far I’ve had it on Waffles, Pancakes & Sundaes. I’m looking forward to trying it on plenty more things as it’s quite a big bottle.
