Dee’s Wholefoods Review

Dee’s Wholefoods were kind enough to send me some of their wonderful products. I first discovered Dee’s Wholefoods at London Vegfest 2015 & I thought they were amazing. The girl I spoke to on the stand gave me her full attention when I was asking her questions & browsing the products. Which I appreciated so much as I work at these shows myself now & now they can be busy & tiring. I purchased quite a few of their goodies then & fell in love. I personally think that the Vegan savoury foods is a little underwhelming, with the likes of Quorn & Linda McCartney taking up supermarket shelf space, these products aren’t all Vegan, not always Gluten-Free & can get very samey. So personally I am really happy to see the rise of great savoury goodies such as Dee’s Wholefoods, as well as others like Great Food & Secret Sausages. We need to spread the Vegan word in a yummy way!

Anyway, rant over, what is Dee about? Well the website says;

I created Dee’s Wholefoods at the very beginning in my own kitchen, I always wanted to work for myself and just knew that people were tired of boring food laden with additives.

I traded in my car for a van and prepared veggie burgers each evening after work to sell at farmer’s markets and festivals and the result was… everybody loved them! So, I decided to quit my job, develop packaging and sell them into supermarkets. My customers wrote me lots of letters asking me to develop the range, so I soon added tasty veg pots, quinoa pots and a range of veggie sausages.

As a nutritionist I believe when you eat better, you feel better. It’s that simple. That’s why I use only the best quality natural and organic ingredients loaded with health benefits and free of the bad stuff; no gluten or artificial additives, no soy, dairy, GMO or wheat. And it’s all meat free…enjoy!

 

I mean, come on. I love this woman! She sounds amazing & she makes amazing food… I’d marry her if she’d let me, but she’d probably find it a little weird if I turned up on her doorstep with a ring & a proposal that she just needs to feed me.

Let’s get down to business. Foody business. Dee’s Wholefoods sent me three different products to try. Dee’s 6 Leek & Onion Vegan Sausages, Dee’s 2 Omega Burgers & Dee’s Quinoa Pot with Thai Spiced Vegetables.

Dee’s 6 Leek & Onion Vegan Sausages

I often find myself going to the supermarket & buying Linda McCartney Rosemary & Sage Sausages, as they are the only GFV Sausages that are easily available. Now I am not slagging them off at all, they taste great. However after a while they get a little samey & carnivores often have a range of flavour to choose from. Us Vegans need that too. So thank the Vegan Gods for these Leek & Onion Sausages.

What I like most about these are the skin they come in. It actually looks a little more like a Sausage than other Faux Meat products. These sausages were filled with flavour too, you can tell they’re packed with yummy herbs & spices. The texture is also insanely good, the skin keeps all the goodness inside & it’s crispy. It’s great to have a Vegan Crispy Sausage! The inside is almost fluffy & not heavy at all, great combination of flavour & texture. I can’t wait for the summer & to throw these on the BBQ.

I used these Sausages as part of a Full English Breakfast, Pesto Pasta Sausage Bake, with Gardeners Pie, with Maca-no-cheese & as a Toad-in-the-Hole. All the dishes complimented the sausages perfectly, showing their versatility.

Ingredients: Pea Protein*, Navy Beans, Black Beans, Ground Flaxseed, Leek (1%) & Onion (0.7%) Herbs and Spices, Irish Rapeseed Oil, Irish Dulse Seaweed (0.7%).
* From Yellow Peas grown sustainably using environmentally friendly methods** in the North of France

Dee’s 2 Omega Burgers & Dee’s

I don’t really like Bean Burgers, I think over the years I have become fed up of them, so I often find myself making my own burgers. Which I love & enjoy. When I saw Dee’s burgers at London Vegfest last year I thought as they’re a little different I’ll give them a try & I am really glad I did. I remember the lovely lady I spoke to telling me about the Omega Burgers, she said ‘They’re not as tasty as the others but they are good & really healthy’. I really liked her honesty & I love healthy. So I purchased them then, & to get more from Dee made me very happy because I think they are very tasty. I also think they taste healthy if that makes sense? Which I think is great. They aren’t as full of flavour as the Sausages, but the texture is just as good they don’t go all mushy when you’re half way through eating them. You know what I mean, when half your burger falls out as you take a bite.

I had these Burgers on Bfree Wraps with Plamil Mayo & Salad with either Homemade Fries. I would highly recommend these, however I would make sure the salad isn’t too flavourful as it will over power the burgers, I used lettuce leaves, Cucumber & gherkins.

Ingredients: Cooked Organic Brown Rice, Cooked Organic Millet, Organic Carrots, Organic Broccoli, Organic Hulled Hemp Seeds, Organic Hulled Sunflower Seeds, Organic Spices.

Dee’s Quinoa Pot with Thai Spiced Vegetables

I never buy ready meals. I don’t really like them. I am a bit overcautious. I always wonder what they are packed with, I fear they may not be healthy. I also find they are not that tasty, as I need to add extra herbs or spices. I have never tried any of Dee’s Pots as a result of this… One day I had no lunch for work. I thought to myself this is the time for me to try Thai Spiced Vegetables Quinoa Pot. I was so happy when I took my first bite at lunch time. I love Thai Food because I love the unique flavours, this was perfect. I did not need to add anything at all. It was creamy, full of flavour & just the right amount of spice. It’s full of veggies & has lots of vitamins and fiber. I liked it so much that the next day I didn’t bother making lunch, I had the pot again. I now can not wait to try the other flavours. I just need

to find somewhere that sells them. This has to be my favourite product of Dee’s, I would highly recommend this pot of yumminess.
