My train ride to work was lacking in entertainment this morning, so with a black coffee in hand I googled Vegan dietary needs & supplements. I don’t want to become weak or ill while taking part in this challenge – I found a helpful little website (http://www.vegetariantimes.com/article/veg-supplement-guide/). It explains that there are certain vitamins & minerals that Vegans & Vegetarians tend to miss out on; omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins B12 & D, calcium, zinc, iron, and iodine. The website explains different ways you can attain these essentials – either by foods or supplements. Luckily for me, I already eat a lot of the foods they recommend – so I don’t have anything to worry about. However if you are Vegan or Vegetarian you should look into this. Listen to your body. If there is something wrong – it usually has a way of telling you. Remember if you are worried that you are missing out on anything important your body needs you can always ask your doctor.
Today I forgot my lunch, I say forgot, the only thing I had in the fridge were carrots, so I picked up salad & houmous from Tesco Express. This time I avoided the bakery section. Turns out no matter how much carrot & salad I stuffed down my throat at lunch – when the ice cream van turns up I will instantly turn into an 8 year old child & become ridiculously hungry. I love ice-cream. I worked at Thorntons for 8 years & I loved scooping ice cream straight into my mouth. The ice cream man only ever comes on the occasionally Thursday. Whenever I really, really, really want him to pull up outside the office & fill my life with his frozen loveliness he never does. Honestly – I am not over exaggerating – this is my life. The most annoying thing is whenever I’m having a ‘good’ or ‘healthy’ day he turns up… Like today. I bet he’ll taunt me for the next three Thursdays too. Then on the 2nd October, when my challenge is finished – he won’t even turn up. Rant over.
Tonight I went out for a meal. A lovely little Mexican place in Worcester called Amigos. I booked in advance & explained my dietary needs – hoping that with a bit of warning they’d be able to throw something together. I think two salads in one day is a bit much… The food they presented me with was amazing & delicious. Roasted vegetable tacos – here is a photo of me just before I shoved my face into it – I imagine that would really hurt with tacos, it would be quite sharp, all those crispy bits. My amigos all had cheeses Mexican dishes, but because my meal was so tasty I didn’t feel as though I needed cheese.
I love Mexican food & I asked for it spicy – which it was. Thumbs up all round I was happy, full & satisfied. If you’re ever in Worcester you should check it out, it’s got an awesome atmosphere & it does great cocktails – I love cocktails. Now I’m home & about to eat my last slice of Peanut Butter Double Chocolate Brownie. This makes me a little sad that it will soon all be gone & digested, although it means I get to bake something new, let’s hope it’s just as good.
